Hopewell Junction Garden Centers & Florists After Sabellico's

"Unfortunately, it is time for us to close our doors after 76 years of growing for our neighbors and community," owner Ray Sabellico wrote in the announcement Daily Voice reported on September 1. The announcement gave no reason. The business's own website now says "CLOSED as of 9/30/26" right under its old tagline, "Growing Since 1950."

The closing does more than leave one storefront on Hillside Lake Road empty. For decades, a single address handled mums, perennials, shrubs, houseplants, vegetable starts, lawn supplies and a bouquet for a funeral or a birthday. Those jobs are now split among farms, nurseries and florists along Route 82, Route 9D, Route 55, Route 376 and Old Post Road. Each has its own hours and its own end to the season. This fall the order of your errands matters more than it used to.

What one address on Hillside Lake Road used to cover

Daily Voice described the range clearly. Sabellico's sold locally grown annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs, houseplants, organic vegetable and herb plants, fruit trees, berry bushes, and gardening and lawn-care supplies, and it ran a full-service florist shop on top of all that. Much of what it sold came from its own greenhouses. Some staff had worked there for more than 40 years.

If you placed an order through a school or club fall fundraiser before the closing, Hudson Valley Country reported that the business would still honor existing fundraiser orders and delivery schedules. Some online listings haven't caught up yet. Destination Dutchess still has an undated page describing Sabellico's as open, so a quick search may send you to a closed business.

The replacements, sorted by when they stop

As of October 3, here's where the pieces went. The order below follows each business's posted season, starting with whatever closes first.

Business Where What it covers Posted season or hours
Barton Orchards 63 Apple Tree Lane, Poughquag Decorative pumpkins, gourds, acorn squash Pumpkin picking typically mid-September to late October
Fishkill Farms 9 Fishkill Farm Rd, Hopewell Junction Pumpkin patch, farm store with flowers Fall Harvest Festival Weekends through November 1
Red Barn Farm & Nursery 125 Myers Corners Road, Wappingers Falls Trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals Current hours run through November 30
Sunny Garden Greenhouses 2238 Route 9D, Wappingers Falls Its own autumn mums, NY-grown trees and wreaths Open seven days, no 2026 holiday schedule posted
Adams Fairacre Farms 160 Old Post Road, Wappingers Falls Nursery, seasonal greenhouse, Christmas trees Open seven days, 7 a.m. start
Bouquets By Christine 792 Route 82, Hopewell Junction Custom, occasion and sympathy arrangements Weekdays and Saturday mornings

Pumpkins have the shortest runway

The pumpkin window closes first, so start there. Barton Orchards in Poughquag lists large pumpkins, sugar pumpkins, mini decorative pumpkins, gourds and acorn squash. Its 2026 page says picking has started and that the season usually runs from mid-September to late October. The posted hours lean late: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. That makes a Friday evening run after work possible.

Closer to the old Sabellico's address, Fishkill Farms on Fishkill Farm Road runs a pumpkin patch from mid-September through October. Its Fall Harvest Festival Weekends continue through November 1, with apple and pumpkin picking, wagon rides, a corn maze, live music, food vendors and cider. October 3 falls on a Saturday, so counting this one, five festival weekends remain. The last ends with Code Green playing on November 1. The farm store is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is normally closed Mondays. The schedule flips for the holiday: open Monday, October 12, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closed Tuesday, October 13. The farm store also lists flowers along with its seasonal produce. That helps if you only need a few stems to go with the gourds.

On a weekday, Fishkill Farms also brings in From the Ground Up as a food truck on October 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On October 16, an Open Mic & Food Truck Night runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the Treasury Cider Porch. Either day makes a pumpkin stop easier to fit in than a crowded festival Saturday.

Mums and fall planting move west, toward Wappingers Falls

Fall mums went to Sunny Garden Greenhouses. Like Sabellico's, it grows the plants it sells. Sunny Garden says it grows its own autumn mums, which is the closest match on this list to what Hillside Lake Road offered. The greenhouse at 2238 Route 9D is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

For trees, shrubs and perennials going into the ground before frost, Red Barn Farm & Nursery at 125 Myers Corners Road lists trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and vegetable plants. Its current hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday, run through November 30. Its site doesn't say whether mums or cornstalks are in stock this month, and the homepage still says "Spring is here!" Call before you make the drive for a specific plant.

Adams Fairacre Farms at 160 Old Post Road has the longest hours of the group: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The store has garden center, nursery and seasonal greenhouse departments. Nursery stock includes perennials, shrubs and trees, and annuals are sold in the greenhouse. It covers the same supply-shelf errands Sabellico's handled under its gardening supplies and lawn care section.

The florist side has a replacement on Route 82

Bouquets By Christine is the only one of these businesses in Hopewell Junction proper. It sits at 792 Route 82 and offers custom, occasion and sympathy arrangements. It's open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Saturday hours end in the early afternoon, so weekend orders need to go in early.

If you need longer hours or delivery, three more florists are a short drive away:

  • Lucille's Florist, 17 Church Street, Fishkill. Custom arrangements, wedding and reception flowers, funeral designs, and same-day area delivery. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
  • Always in Bloom Flower Shop, 1141 State Route 55, Suite C, Lagrangeville. Same-day delivery and hand-delivered custom arrangements. Open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays, plus regular hours on Monday, October 12.
  • Detas Heavenly Florist, 985 Route 376, Suite 9, Wappingers Falls. Florist-designed arrangements, sympathy and funeral flowers, and same-day delivery. Open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

All four list Sunday as closed. That's worth remembering when a Monday birthday sneaks up on you.

Holiday greens are the least settled piece

Wreaths and trees come last on the calendar, and that's where the gaps are. Sunny Garden Greenhouses says it brings in New York-grown Christmas trees and wreaths but hasn't posted 2026 holiday dates. As of October 2, the Adams Fairacre Farms homepage was already advertising fresh Christmas trees and decorations, also with no sale dates.

For a choose-and-cut tree, the most recent nearby listing is from last year. Cornell Cooperative Extension's 2025 directory listed Mike Senkier's Evergreen Forest Christmas Tree Farm at 161 Walsh Road in Lagrangeville. It offered Fraser, Balsam, Canaan and Concolor firs, Blue Spruce and wreaths, and was open November 28 to 30 and December weekends from 9 a.m. to dusk. That's 2025 information. It doesn't confirm the farm will open this year or on those dates, so check before you plan a family outing around it.

Put it together and here's what the stretch after Sabellico's looks like. Pumpkins from Barton Orchards and Fishkill Farms before late October and November 1. Mums from Sunny Garden while they last. Shrubs and perennials from Red Barn before November 30. Trees and greens once Adams and Sunny Garden post their dates. Bouquets By Christine on Route 82 handles the florist work, Monday through Saturday.
